New Delhi, Nov 16 (ENA)  Gender discrimination continues to a major problem within the Indian society with numerous incidents of abuse reported each day.  In an attempt to address these issues, the Government of Kerala is in the process of setting up a gender university which will be the first of its kind in the country that will focus on research oriented studies related to gender.

The gender university will be housed within the Gender Park in Kozhikode district along the lines of similar institutions overseas, media reports said.

The Gender Park was conceived by the Department of Social Justice, Government of Kerala as a platform where State, Non-Government Organisations (NGO), academia and civil society unite for learning and research on gender equality.

It will promote innovative and new interventions, in partnership with various stakeholders, and directly support the empowerment of women and gender equality, according to official data.

To provide an international outreach, the organisers are planning to collaborate with institutions of gender studies such as the London School of Economics and UN Women other than exchange programmes with other likeminded institutions.

The curriculum framework and other details will be decided by a high level committee set up for this purpose.

'She Taxi' the all-women taxi service and 'Food on Wheels' are other initiatives of the Gender Park.  (ENA Bureau)
